Q & A
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to own The Inn at Governors Club.
I am originally from Ithaca, NY and went to school at NC State in Raleigh, NC. I stayed in the area with my husband and ran biotech companies in the triangle until I retired early and starting managing rental properties. I acquired my first cottage at the Governors Club in Chapel Hill in 2014 and now own 4 in total. I now manage and operate the cottages a space for guest, weddings, and events.
What measures do you take to live an eco-friendly lifestyle?
I am getting a Tesla along with a charging station in a few weeks. For the cottages, I am installing mini-splits to help further cut down on electricity costs. We have also installed LED bulbs and insulated the fixtures to block heat and cold from the outdoor elements.
How long have you been in business?
Since 2014
What made you decide to go solar?
I’m concerned about global warming and want to do my part. I have always wanted to own solar and this is the first time I have owned a property that would be a good fit.
How was your experience working with NC Solar Now?
Excellent! Very responsive and well-coordinated. It was smooth dealing with Duke Energy (which can be confusing) since NC Solar Now did all of the legwork.
What benefits have you seen since converting to PV?
It’s only been 3 days since my install but I am looking forward to cutting my power bills down drastically. They currently run, without solar, $1,000/month in the winter.
What is your favorite part about owning a business in NC?
My guests and vendors are very friendly and helpful.
