Our Process

You have probably gathered that NC Solar Now is completely turnkey! We understand that going solar is a big decision so we make sure the process is seamless.

Home Evaluation

Once you have decided to add solar to your home and/or business, we kick things off with flying cameras. We use our own state of the art drone technology to conduct a thorough home evaluation. This data determines the number of kilowatts needed to power the size of your home and/or business.

Roof Assessment

A Solar Energy System can be customized for many different roof types. For customers without a suitable roof area, our systems can be designed for a wide variety of alternative installations, including ground and pole mounts.

HOA & Utilities

If you have an HOA, no worries! Our staff works with your neighborhood association for approval and we pride ourselves on having a 98% success rate. We also handle all permitting, financing, design and communication with your utility company throughout the installation.

Connecting Your Solar System to the Utility Grid

Most photovoltaic (PV) solar panel systems are grid-tied, meaning they are designed to be able to export excess power to your local utility grid. An export occurs when the power generated by the solar panel system is greater than the power used by your home. Being grid-tied also allows your home to rely on power from your local utility when the sun isn’t shining or extra power is needed. Net metering is a type of grid-tied system, and it can result in a credit on your monthly electric bill, equivalent to the amount of power your solar system produced in the month. There are two processes that are required before your system can connect to the grid:

Permitting Process

During the permitting process, the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) will verify your system’s compliance with various required codes and standards.

Interconnection Process

While the permitting process is going on, the interconnection process also begins, during which time the utility must verify that your system meets the following basic requirements:

  • Power exported to the grid must be measurable and compliant with the grid’s standards of voltage, frequency, power quality and certified equipment.
  • The AC side of the system must meet all safety requirements.
  • The power and energy generated by the system must meet net metering requirements.

Once all of these approvals are in place, your system is ready to be grid-tied. At NC Solar Now, we take care of all paperwork required to get your solar system connected to the grid. It is our job to make sure the process of adding solar panels to your home is as easy and painless as possible!
