Business Leaps into 21st Century with Solar
NC Solar Now installs 130-panel rooftop solar array at Davidson Funeral Home
Lexington, N.C.: NC Solar Now of Raleigh, NC installed 130 solar panels on the roof of Davidson Funeral Home, a 150-year-old business located in Lexington, NC. The 39 kW solar installation is the largest in the Lexington area.
Davidson Funeral Home’s Corporate Treasurer Daniel Briggs said they wanted to make themselves more sustainable and offset energy costs with solar. The system will produce approximately 60,000 kilowatt hours a year. “We tried to be more environmentally friendly to lower costs in an effort to pass our savings to the consumer,” Briggs said.
State and federal tax credits along with an accelerated depreciation schedule make solar an appealing investment for businesses in North Carolina. The government incentives currently available for commercial solar installations pay for approximately 90 percent of the overall cost to install. Briggs said the incentives make solar a viable financial investment for the company. The solar system will pay for itself in less than five years and add considerable value to the property. Briggs said that there has been some local inquiry about the system since it was installed.
Davidson Funeral Home has been in business for 150 years and Briggs said they hope to be around for at least that much longer. He said the decision to install solar is in keeping with the times and the business’ effort to be more energy efficient. “We have gotten a very positive response so far,” Briggs added.
