What Does That Mean For the Solar Industry?
President Biden has been a champion for solar since the days of his vice presidency. With climate change being one of his priorities, it is safe to say that the solar industry could reap the benefits throughout his next four years in office! With the Biden-Harris administration embracing a clean energy mindset, we can only hope that this new momentum for clean energy will sweep our nation.
Looking Back
Back in 2015, when Joe was only the Vice President, he took a stance on solar that was rather progressive. He knew that the solar industry was posed to grow across the country and was set to be an important piece of our economic infrastructure. He hoped that the country would welcome that mindset when he spoke at the general session of the Solar Power International conference in Anaheim, California. At the conference, he expressed his full support for the solar power industry and his belief that solar power can have a massive impact on our country going forward.
“More Americans are appreciating the importance of solar,” he said. “It’s happening exponentially across the country.”
President Biden’s Plan to Build Back Better
Now that the election results are in and President Biden is a few months into his presidency, we have already caught a glimpse of his plans to tackle climate change. He has created the “Build Back Better Plan.” where he will launch a national effort aimed at creating the jobs that are needed to build a modern, sustainable infrastructure and deliver an equitable clean energy future.
The Biden Administration believes that as Americans, we have the opportunity to build a “more resilient, sustainable economy – one that will put the United States on an irreversible path to achieve net-zero emissions, economy-wide, by no later than 2050.”
An Investment in Our Future
The Biden team has also stated that they will make a $2 TRILLION investment in this plan to deploy those resources to create a sustainable economy over his first term. As a country, he is setting us on an irreversible course to meet the ambitious climate progress that science demands.
This investment will be poured into:
- Infrastructure
- Auto Industry
- Transit
- Buildings and Housing, Innovation
- Agriculture and Conservation, and Environmental Justice
And last but surely not least…
- Power Sector: American-made electricity to achieve a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035. This will enable us to meet the existential threat of climate change while creating millions of jobs.
What Does This Mean for the Solar Industry?
With Biden’s Plan, it is clear that the solar industry will be positively affected. The solar industry as a whole – jobs, sales, technical innovation, installations – will continue to advance. Public awareness will only grow as more solar panels appear on homes and businesses across the country.
With the Federal Solar Tax Credit extended for the years 2021 and 2022, more people will be going solar and taking advantage of this 26% tax credit. During the next four years, great things are set to happen! We are bound to see a surge in our government’s efforts to combat climate change and we are excited to see what the future holds for the Solar Industry!
