NC Solar Now installs 60-panel solar array at the Bayer Bee Care Center
Raleigh, N.C.: Bayer Bee Care Center Buzzes with Excitement over Solar in 2015. NC Solar Now has installed a 60-panel, ground-mounted solar system for the Bayer CropScience North American Bee Care Center to offset power at its facility on the Research Triangle Park campus in North Carolina. The solar array will also be accessible to the public in an effort to educate on the benefits of solar power. The 260-watt panels are manufactured by American company Suniva.
On an annual basis, the 15.6 kW system will produce 22.8 MWh of power. That’s the equivalent of planting 40 acres of forest or taking 41 cars off the road each year, off-setting 205.2 tons of CO2. Peter Erri, Bayer CropScience manager of Site Services RTP says, “We decided to add the solar array as it fits perfectly with Bayer’s commitment to sustainability.”
A Bayer CropScience Kansas City production facility has solar panels, including a monitoring panel which indicates the amount of energy produced. “This has been extremely well received by our staff and we wanted to provide a similar experience to our RTP facility. We are a science-based company, and we are, therefore, always interested in facts and data,” says Erri.
Erri told NC Solar Now, “Our mission is ‘Science for a Better Life’ and generating electricity on-site is an example of applying technology to provide a tangible benefit.”
The Bayer Bee Care Center is designed to serve as a focal point for existing and future bee health initiatives. Bayer CropScience is actively collaborating with farmers, researchers and graduate students from universities, such as North Carolina State University to conduct research that will improve bee health.
