Federal Tax Credit

Homeowners in North Carolina who install a solar system on their home are eligible for a 30 percent tax credit on their investment from the Federal government. This is part of the Energy Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, and is in place until 2019. There is no limit to the amount you can claim.

NC Green Power

NC GreenPower is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve North Carolina’s environment through voluntary contributions toward renewable energy and the mitigation of greenhouse gases. A landmark initiative approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, NC GreenPower is the first statewide green energy program in the nation supported by all the state’s utilities and administered by Advanced Energy, an independent nonprofit corporation located in Raleigh, N.C. NC GreenPower is currently accepting applications for solar PV systems up to 5 kW (DC rated) in capacity and will pay you $0.06 per kWh generated.

UPDATE April 14, 2016: The program has currently reached the application cap of 100 kW. All subsequent applications are being added to a waiting list.
